Crew

ARE YOU AGED 18 TO 21 (OR EVEN UP TO 25)?
IF SO, THEN THIS IS FOR YOU!
THE CHANCE OF A LIFETIME TO SAIL AS CREW ON BOARD PEGASUS FOR A TWO WEEK ADVENTURE
IT WILL COST YOU VERY LIITLE AS PLACES ARE SPONSORED BY THE CLASSIC YOUNG SAILORS FOUNDATION
AND YOU DON’T EVEN NEED ANY SAILING EXPERIENCE!
Pegasus is a traditional Pilot Cutter purpose built in 2008 as a sail training yacht to provide life-enhancing sailing activities for young people of all backgrounds to enjoy the freedom, excitement, and challenge of living and working as part of a team at sea, learning new skills and discovering new places and horizons.
The two week voyage will start in Plymouth and first sail to Dartmouth, where Pegasus will join a fleet of up to 100 other traditional and classic boats racing there for two days in the Classic Channel Regatta. She will then continue in the regatta racing from Dartmouth to St Peter Port in Guernsey and then on to Lézardriuex and Paimpol in Brittany where the final race will be around the Île de Bréhat. On July 14th. Pegasus will be in Paimpol for the town’s Fête Nationale (Bastille Day) celebrations when the regatta fleet will be the central attraction. At the end of the voyage she will sail to Roscoff where the crew will leave and the English crew will take the Brittany Ferries ferry back to Plymouth.
Pegasus has three professional crew – the skipper, mate and 2nd mate. There will be nine trainee crew (probably both British and French) who will play a full part in sailing Pegasus and life on board, learning the skills needed and standing watches (including night watches when sailing at night). There will be opportunities to learn about navigation and seamanship, and the trainee crew will take turns cooking for all the crew. Everyone will have their own bunk and a small space for stowing their personal kit. Foul weather clothing will be provided, but you will need to bring all other clothing and a sleeping bag – full information on this will be provided when a place is confirmed
Funding for the voyage will be through the Classic Young Sailors Foundation and the generosity of The Baltic Exchange Charitable Foundation and other grants and donations.
Thanks to the support of these charities and donors, we are providing this incredible experience for just £250 per person, when the actual cost is over £1,600. And if you are keen to come, but cannot afford this much, then bursaries are available.
Applications for places will be considered from anyone in the age range 18 – 25 who can demonstrate that they are in some way deserving of the opportunity and would not be able to afford the full cost of £1,600.
To apply for one of the very limited number of places please complete the application form without delay.
